There's so much to do on holidays in Fort Myers, it's hard to decide how to spend your time here.
Fort Myers beach vacations are safe, fun and ideal for families. There is a playground on the beach at Times Square and sports available for teens. Sanibel and Captiva beaches are far quieter and relaxing with miles of white powdered sand. These resorts are suitable for all budgets and the spectacular views and sunsets are free. Sanibel and Captiva are the two Southern most Gulf barrier islands. If you are on a tight budget trip it is less expensive to make day trips to Sanibel and Captiva from Fort Myers. Sanibel is not spoilt by high rises and the palm trees are the tallest creations! The same applies to Captiva which is a smaller resort and it is easier to drive around than walk or bike. When youre not soaking up the rays, sign up for a spot of scuba diving dolphins, manatees and sea turtles are common visitors to these parts.
Away from the shores, on Fort Myers beach holidays you can treat yourself to a spot of shopping at the trendy boutiques and art deco antique curios. Or take a stroll along the Fort Myers Pier, a favourite with fishermen and the local pelicans.
Theres plenty to dip into on the sightseeing front, too. American inventors Thomas Edison and Henry Ford, put Fort Myers on the map when they chose it as their winter getaway, and their huge estate is well worth a visit. Take a tour of Edisons laboratory, check out his greatest inventions the gramophone and the electric light bulb and explore the 20 acres of tropical gardens.
Back in town, youll find a hub of enticing eateries from waterfront café bars to gourmet chef-owned restaurants all serving the local speciality, Gulf shrimp.
If youve got children with you, the Shell Factory and Nature Park in north Fort Myers and the Sun Splash Family Waterpark in nearby Cape Coral are a bit hit. When the sun goes down, step out into the balmy evening breeze and bag yourself a seat at a rooftop bar or a sultry jazz haunt, or sip a cocktail at the glamorous Dolce Vita lounge. Cheers!
Once you have had a Fort Myers beach vacation, we know youll be back for more.
